People with disabilities deserve more than just one day a year, and we need to forge new
alliances between stakeholders every day, so that everyone can contribute to making progress
on the issue of integrating people with disabilities. The following is an extract from Pr
TCHAMBA Martin’s speech at the celebration of the International Day of Disabled Persons in
Dschang.
The theme of the day was « Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of
innovation in nurturing an accessible and equitable world ». The event, which took place in the
hall of the rural mayor’s office in Dschang, was attended by over 300 people living with a
disability in the Menoua region. Chaired by Mr. HAMAD DJOULDE FALKAOU BRICE, 3rd
Prefectural Deputy and representing the Prefect of MENOUA, the ceremony was also attended
by regional and departmental social affairs delegates, as well as some of the partners who
support the public authorities in the development and socio-economic support of disabled
people in Menoua. The association Humanitaire pour les Vulnérables (HAVU) donated 50
white ducks worth around 750,000 FCFA. The ceremony was also an opportunity for the
authorities in the West region, through the regional delegate for social affairs, to honor HAVU
with a certificate of recognition for all the work it has done to date to help people with
disabilities achieve their full potential. Pr. TCHAMBA Martin, founder of the Association
Humanitaire pour les Personnes Vulnérables (HAVU), thanked the authorities present for their
constant support in the accomplishment of HAVU’s missions. He also thanked the elders of
Grace Church Philly, Reverend Yonkeu Théodor and his wife Love Aimée, founders of WWK,
WWK National Director Eleonore and HAVU members. He also reiterated that (HAVU) will

continue to support these vulnerable people through targeted actions that are compassionate yet
hopeful, in line with our slogan, « Pathways for the Vulnerable: Education, Health and
Economic Opportunity ». It’s about looking at the disabled « differently »!
